 FAQs

  • Hedgehogs are nocturnal. If you find a hedgehog out at night and it looks healthy please leave it alone. Hedgehogs are wild animals and can get stressed by humans

If you find a hedgehog out in the daytime it may need help. There are some exceptions to this, such as females either feeding young, building nests or if a nest is disturbed. These hogs will generally be moving with purpose and appear well.

  • Use gardening gloves or a towel to pick the hog up

Take it inside and place it in a high sided box. If the hog doesn’t have flystrike (small grains of rice ) on it, please provide heat with either a well-wrapped hot water bottle or even a drinks bottle filled with warm water. Pop the hedgehog in a nice quiet place and provide a shallow bowl of water. Make sure the box is big enough for the hedgehog to be able to get off the heat if needed. Once the hedgehog is safe and settled please contact your local rescue

  • Hedgehogs main diet is earwigs, millipedes, caterpillars, ground beetles & earth worms

We can all help hedgehogs by providing fresh drinking water in a shallow bowl and dried cat biscuits.

  • Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant so please do not give them milk. Bread is low in energy so worthless to them. Please feed cat biscuits and provide water in shallow bowls.
